LONGVIEW, Texas – Malacia Guy and Warren Richardson earned LETU Players of the Month for February, the athletics department announced Monday.

This recognition highlights the accomplishments of the student-athletes during the month.

“I’m proud of Warren and Malacia on being named the LETU Male and Female Student-Athletes of the Month for February,” Interim Athletics Director Robin Harriss said. “Their hard work, dedication and success on the court helped their respective teams achieve success.”

Guy, a junior guard from Itasca, Texas, paced the women’s basketball team to a 4-2 mark over the final six regular season games, securing the YellowJackets seventh tournament appearance, including three in succession. She averaged 14.0 points, 3.6 rebounds and 4.3 assists on .412/.419/.806 shooting in seven games (37.1 minutes per contest). Guy posted five double-digit scoring games in February. For the season, she totaled career highs with 273 points, 105 rebounds and 117 assists during the 2021-22 season.

"Malacia was a big part of our success, especially during the stretch run," Head Coach Cassi Rozanski said. "She's the player you hate to face and sometimes her ability to take teams out of what they're doing isn't appreciated by the casual fan. Her ability to impact the game in so many ways and we knew we could count on her for 40 solid minutes every night if need be.”

Richardson, a senior forward from League City, Texas, led the men’s basketball team post a 7-2 record and reach the American Southwest Conference final – the second in three seasons. He averaged 14.1 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.6 blocks, on .625/.000/.708 shooting in nine games (33.7 minutes per contest). He posted two double-doubles during the month and recorded double-digit scoring games in six of the final seven contests. On the season, Richardson set career highs with 386 points, 186 rebounds, 50 assists, 34 blocks and 26 steals.

“Warren stepped up huge for us this season,” Head Coach James Wallace said. “He closed his breakout season with a sensational February. His numbers don’t tell the whole story, his leadership and production were instrumental in the success we enjoyed as a team.”
