CLINTON, Miss. -- The Mississippi College Choctaws took both games of a doubleheader from the visiting LeTourneau YellowJackets on Saturday, winning 9-1 and 5-2.
At the Mississippi College Softball Complex, the Choctaws (18-12) improved to 9-9 in American Southwest Conference East Division play. The Jackets (15-16) fell to 4-12 in league play.
Mississippi College scored nine unanswered runs in game one to claim the win. The Choctaws scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to truncate the contest.
In game two, the Jackets pounded out 11 hits, but a four-run fourth inning provided the winning margin for the Choctaws.
Christin Mickelboro and Brooklyn Greene provided both RBIs for the YellowJackets as each player knocked solo home runs. Mickelboro tied the game at 1-1 when she led off the top of the second inning by blasting the second pitch of the frame over the left field fence.
The round-tripper was Mickelboro's sixth home run of the season
The Choctaws broke the tie in the bottom of the fourth inning by plating four runs on a bases-loaded walk, a 2-RBI double by Sarah Smaltz and a sacrifice fly.
Greene's home run, her fourth of the season, led off the top of the seventh inning.
Kim Mason earned the victory for the Choctaws in game two. Taylor Thibodeaux pitched all six innings for the YellowJackets. She was also the pitcher of record in game one.
Mickelboro went 3-for-3 for the Jackets. Greene, Juliana Tuel and Chloe Cooper knocked two base hits in the game. Tuel also knocked two hits in the opening game of the doubleheader.
The Jackets return to action Tuesday when they visit Texas-Dallas for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. The two games in Richardson, Texas, are the first of four contests between the Comets and YellowJackets next week.
