Howard Payne scored three times in the first half to hold off the LeTourneau University women's soccer team in a 3-2 win over Saturday afternoon in Brownwood.

LeTourneau (5-7-2, 2-4-1 ASC) went ahead in the 10
th minute when sophomore
Stephanie Vana scored her eighth goal of the season for an early lead.

Howard Payne (6-6-1, 1-3-1 ASC) rallied from the 1-0 deficit to score three times in a 14-minute span to defeat LeTourneau. Taylor Bicknell scored twice on passes from Lynsie Anderson to build a 2-1 lead in the 37
th minute and an unassisted goal by Courtney Turner in the 39
th minute proved to be the difference.

Raylene Gould found the back of the net after a pass from Vana to cut the deficit to one, 3-2, in the 87
th minute. An attempt by senior
Ana Vitro to send the match into overtime from the top of the box was saved in the closing seconds of the match.

Despite the loss, LETU junior goalkeeper
Jamie Aguillen had 16 saves in 90 minutes of action between the posts. Gould and Vana teamed up for nine of the 18 shots by LETU and Howard Payne had 29 shots – 20 of which were on goal in the win. HPU goalkeeper Kelsie Pland tallied nine saves for the win.

Next, LeTourneau will close out the regular season with three-straight home matches starting with a contest on Friday, Oct. 24 at 4 p.m. against University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
