The No. 4 University of Texas-Tyler posted a 10-0 shutout win over the LeTourneau University softball team on Friday afternoon at the LETU softball field.

The YellowJackets (9-11, 4-8 ASC) were limited to three hits by UT Tyler starter Kelsie Batten in the loss. LeTourneau picked up its first hit of the afternoon in the fifth inning on a two out single by freshman
Kelsie Benson.

The Patriots (18-0, 10-0 ASC) got on the board with a four run first inning and added three in the seven, plus a run each in the third, fourth and sixth for the shutout win. All nine players in the lineup had a hit including Raven Rodriguez, Jackie Mendez and KK Stevens, who each had two to contribute to a 12-hit attack. Batten struck out eight and walked two in the win to raise her record to 10-0.

UT Tyler scored four runs on four hits in the first for an early 4-0 lead. Two of the runs came in on a two-RBI single by Kristin Lopez and two more came in on a two-RBI single by Whitney Burt. After adding a run in the third, fourth and sixth inning, UT Tyler stretched its lead to 7-0. Then, they plated three runs on two hits in the seventh for the final margin. Two of the final three runs came on a two-RBI single by Rodriguez.

The two teams will wrap up the weekend series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader for its inaugural For the Fallen Game. The National Guard will be present for the game, a local junior ROTC chapter will present the colors and the families of some fallen military will be recognized and LETU police chief Terry Turner – who is also a veteran - will throw out the first pitch.Â
