Reigning ASC Hitter of the Week and 2014 NFCA All-American Lacey Lindsey hit a pair of home runs to lead No. 4 East Texas Baptist to a 7-2 win over host LeTourneau on Friday night.
The Tigers (3-2, 1-0 ASC) picked up a three-run home run by Lindsey in the third inning to break a 1-1 tie; then she added a two-run home run in the fourth inning for her third career multi-home run game of her career. The junior from Leander was 2-for-3 with five RBI to lead a nine-hit attack for East Texas Baptist.
The YellowJackets (4-5, 2-2 ASC) had three players with two hits including
Megan Hill,
Macey Mize and
Rachel Gauspohl (pictured) in the loss. Hill and Gauspohl each had a RBI in the loss.
ETBU scored an unearned run in the first off LETU starter
Courtney Matulis before the YellowJackets answered in its half of the first on a RBI single by Gauspohl. Hill was hit by a pitch to start the inning; then she moved to second on a
Kennedi Dillow sacrifice bunt. A double by Mize put runners on second and third for Gauspohl, who brought in Hill to tie the contest.
Lindsey hit her first of two home runs in the third to put the Tigers ahead 4-1 in the third inning. ETBU scored three more times - two of which came around to score on the two-run home run by Lindsey - in the the top of the fourth to make it 7-1.
The YellowJackets plated their final run of the night when senior
Brianna Williams doubled to left-center field to begin the fourth inning. Then, with two out, Hill brought in Williams from second with a double to left field.
In the circle, Matulis got the loss after pitching three innings, allowing five hits, five runs (four earned) to fall to 1-1 for LeTourneau. ETBU starter Raquel Tello went the distance, allowing seven hits, two runs (both earned) and striking three to improve 2-0.
The two teams will wrap up the weekend series with a doubleheader at noon at the Joyce Family Athletic Village for Boys & Girls Club Day.
