LeTourneau Softball Loses to Belhaven, 9-3

Belhaven defeated LeTourneau, 9-3, on Saturday to take the weekend series in Longview.

The YellowJackets (17-20) rallied to tie the game at 2 in the second inning before the Blazers (28-6) scored the next seven runs en route to the win.

LeTourneau senior Brianna Williams (pictured) had two of the four hits to go along with a run scored and a RBI in the loss. A RBI single by Williams in the second plated the first run of the game for LeTourneau, then she successfully stole home for the final run. Starting pitcher Ashley Burdine went four innings, allowing six hits and six runs (three earned) and a strikeout in the loss.
 
Belhaven had 11 hits including three from Carly Yasses, who went 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored to lead the Blazers. Makenzie Hawkins added a pair of hits and three runs scored to give support to starting pitcher Taylor Surrento, who allowed four hits, three runs (all earned) and struck out four in the win.
 
Next, LeTourneau will host Howard Payne in the final home series of the 2016 season. The series will get underway on Friday, April 22 in a doubleheader at 4 p.m.
