LeTourneau University women's soccer opened the season with a 2-1 victory over Texas Lutheran University at the Joyce Family Athletic Village. It marks the second time in three years that the YellowJackets have opened the season with a win.
After a TLU goal in the 16th minute put the Bulldogs up 1-0, freshman
Melanie Shempert found a pass from senior
Stephanie Vana to score the first goal of her YellowJacket career.
"Melanie is a fantastic team player and had a great finish tonight for our first goal of the season. I'm also so pleased with how the team came back from a goal down and stepped up the tempo to get the win," said head coach
John Antonisse following the win.
The two teams went to the half tied at 1 and it remained that way until junior
JoLynn O'Kelley came off the bench and scored the game-winning goal to give the YellowJackets the win.
LeTourneau outshot the Bulldogs 13-7 and senior
Brittany Hollis recorded her second career win in the goal for the YellowJackets.
The women's soccer squad will be back in action Saturday for a home matchup against the Mountaineers from Schreiner University at 1 PM.
