LeTourneau Women's Soccer Can't Overcome Early Deficit

SHREVEPORT, Louisiana - The LeTourneau University YellowJackets fell behind 2-0 before seeing a late rally fall just short the Ladies of Centenary College on Tuesday, October 3, dropping a 2-1 decision.

The YellowJackets fired first and were able to get two shots off early, but both were saved by the Ladies' goalkeeper Maggie Pitcher.

In the 20th minute, Kyra Montes of the Ladies would break free of her defender to serve the ball across the six-yard box for Gabby Lovemore to finish. The Ladies would go up 1-0 and hold their one goal lead into half time.

In the second half, the YellowJackets would get off three shots before the Ladies would get another goal off a LeTourneau mishap in the box which would extend the Centenary lead to 2-0 in the 70th minute.

The YellowJackets fought back to pull within one goal in the 82nd minute when Tamara Martin threaded the needle up the middle to put the ball on Kennedy Keer's foot. Keer would beat Pitcher and put the ball into the back of the net to cut the Ladies' lead in half. Following the goal, the Centenary defense would stand tall, holding LETU without a shot in the final nine minutes of the game, and hold on for the win.

LeTourneau would outshoot the Ladies 13-10 and hold a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks in the game, but would see Centenary hold a 6-5 lead in shots on goal which led to the 2-1 final score in favor of the Ladies.

Senior goalkeeper Carrye Funk started in net and played the first 79:12 in between the pipes before making way for freshman Bayleigh Bustamante who finished out the game while making one save.

The YellowJackets will be on the road again this weekend to play East Texas Baptist University in the Highway 80 rivalry at 5 PM on Saturday, October 7th.
