LeTourneau split the opening day of the annual Battle of the YellowJackets as they squared off with Howard Payne in Brownwood. LETU used a season-high 17 hits to take the series opener 12-4. HPU responded with a 6-5 win in game two.
 
Faith Genoway earned her ninth win of the season and tied a career-high with eight strikeouts in her six-inning effort.
 
Howard Payne jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the second inning. LeTourneau would respond with seven unanswered runs in the next three innings to take a 7-3 advantage.
 
Macey Mize and 
Alyssa Pierce tallied back-to-back RBI singles in the third inning to pull LETU within one run.
 
In the top of the fourth inning, doubles by 
Kelsi Coleman and 
Ashlin Roach along with an RBI single for 
Whitney Judd put LeTourneau on top 5-3.
 
Shelby Bagwell tripled in the fifth inning to score 
Bailey Woodard. Senior 
Kaitlyn Allen followed with a sacrifice fly to bring home Bagwell and push lead to 7-3.
 
After HPU added a run in the bottom of the fifth, LeTourneau poured it on with a six hit, six run inning to put the game out of reach.
 
LETU trailed in game two 4-0, 
Macey Mize got the YellowJackets on the board with a three-RBI double to left field that ignited a late game comeback. HPU would score again to push the lead to 5-3 heading into the final two innings.
 
LeTourneau tied the game in the top of the seventh inning as 
Madison Gray earned a bases-loaded RBI and brought home Mize.
 
Despite two strikeouts in the final half inning, Howard Payne would find a way to score in the bottom of the seventh to take the 6-5 victory.
LeTourneau softball will wrap up their season on Saturday with their series finale with Howard Payne. First pitch of the single game is set for 12 p.m. in Brownwood.
