Late Goal Sends LeTourneau Women's Soccer To First Loss of 2017

LONGVIEW, Texas - The LeTourneau University YellowJackets fell in double overtime to the Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders 1-2.

"I'm really proud of the girls effort," Coach John Antonisse said. "I think we can grow from this game and use it to improve."

The YellowJackets came out strong and scored first off a goal from junior Keely Hayden 10 minutes into the game. Going into the half, the YellowJackets would hold the lead and carry it into the second half.

At the 63 minute mark, the Crusaders would earn a corner kick that would lead to an own goal by the YellowJackets and even the score line to send the game into overtime.

In overtime, LeTourneau created multiple chances, but were unable to finish in the final third. Although the Cru would have 2 shots in the first overtime, the YellowJackets were able keep them away from the goal frame. The score remained tied at the end of the first overtime.

In the second overtime, the YellowJackets would have two shots including one on goal. A penalty would give them an opportunity for a close range shot, but missed the goal wide left. Moments later, the Cru would counter and Caitlyn Shaughnessy would score an unassisted goal in the 105th minute.

Carrye Funk remained consistent recording 10 saves on the night while leading the a defense that has been the driving force of the YellowJacket success this season.

The YellowJackets will return to The Joyce Family Athletic Village on the campus of LeTourneau University Saturday, September 16 at 2 p.m. against Concordia (TX) University.
