LETU Women's Soccer Ends Record-Setting Season In ASC Tournament Semifinals

ABILENE, Texas – Trailing 1-0 at halftime following a goal in the 43rd minute, the LeTourneau University women's soccer team would be unable to find any second-half postseason magic in a 3-0 loss to number seven-nationally ranked Hardin-Simmons University in the American Southwest Conference Tournament semifinals at the HSU Soccer Complex in Abilene, Texas on Friday, November 2nd.

LETU finishes the season with an 11-7-2 overall record after making their first-ever appearance in the ASC Tournament semifinals while the Cowgirls advance to Sunday's ASC Championship match while improving to 15-1-1 overall.

How It Happened:
  • The YellowJackets would be put under pressure early on, facing three shots and one corner kick in the opening five minutes from HSU but would not see any of the three shots come on goal.
  • After a Mackenzie Wilbanks save in the 13th minute, Reagan Sandford would put a shot on goal at the 13:20 mark that would force a save from Caitlin Christiansen as the match would remain scoreless through the first 42 minutes of action.
  • With the game being played in the middle third of the field, Keely Hayden would break through for a shot that would get turned away but give LETU some momentum heading into the final 15 minutes of the first half.
  • HSU would earn a corner kick at the 33:24 mark and manage to get off a shot that would end up high, but manage to keep LeTourneau under pressure with the ball in the YellowJacket defensive third.
  • Being kept on defense would eventually on LETU as Hardin-Simmons would earn a free kick just right of the 18-yard box and manage to head in a goal just 2:57 before halftime.
  • The YellowJackets would avoid any more problems heading into the break, trailing 1-0 at intermission.
  • It would be HSU that would come out of halftime and take possession in the LETU defensive third and make the score 2-0 at the 46:42 mark on a cross inside the six-yard box that would be kept on the ground and into the net.
  • Just over 10 minutes later, the Cowgirls would earn a corner kick and make the most of the opportunity with a goal headed off the kick and past Wilbanks to put HSU up 3-0.
  • LETU would crack down on defense and manage to hold Hardin-Simmons off the scoreboard for the remainder of the match despite being unable to find a goal of their own.
Key Stats:
  • LETU would manage to hold HSU to just five of their 17 shots on goal and put three of their seven shots in the match on goal.
  • The Cowgirls would use an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks as part of their three-goal win, with one of the goals coming directly off a corner.
  • Leading LeTourneau on offense would be Sandford, finishing with two shots and one shot on goal in the match.
