LONGVIEW, Texas - Playing their 2018 American Southwest Conference opening match at home, the LeTourneau University women's tennis team picked up a 9-0 sweep over visiting University of the Ozarks at the Davis Tennis Courts in Longview, Texas on Saturday, April 7th.
With the win, LETU improves to 6-7 overall and 1-0 in the ASC while the Eagles remain winless at 0-13 and 0-1 in conference play.
A minor lineup change from previous matches proved to beneficial for the YellowJackets as
Maddison Brackenreg and
Terin Murray earned an 8-2 win at number one doubles while
Gracie Favela and
Katy Hall picked up an 8-0 victory at number two doubles.
Lauren Rockwell and
Samantha Trevino gave LeTourneau a sweep of the doubles points with an 8-2 win at number three doubles to head into the singles matches needing just two points.
Coming up with the two victories would prove to be an easy task for LETU, with Brackenreg and Murray making quick work of their opponents as Brackenreg won 6-1, 6-0 at number one singles and Murray took a 6-2, 6-2 decision at number two singles to clinch the match. Number three singles saw Favela win by scores of 6-3, 6-4 while Hall picked up a 6-4, 6-1 victory at number four singles, putting LeTourneau up by a commanding score of 7-0. The sweep would be finished off by a 6-2, 6-1 victory from Rockwell at number five singles and a 6-1, 7-0 win for Trevino at number six singles.
LETU will play their originally scheduled ASC opening match against the Univeristy of Texas-Tyler in Tyler, Texas on Monday, April 9th at 5 p.m. The match was postponed from Friday due to rain, and will continue ASC East Division play for the YellowJackets.
