Men's Tennis Suffers 5-4 Heartbreaker to Washington College

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC - Seeing four of six singles matches and one of the three doubles matches go to a tiebreak, the LeTourneau University men's tennis team would drop a heartbreaking 5-4 decision to Washington College at the Chaplin Park Tennis Center in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina on Wednesday, March 13th. 

LETU closes out their spring trip by splitting their four matches and now sits at 6-5 overall while the Shormen picked up their second victory of the year to improve to 2-3 overall. 

All three doubles matches would be closely contested, with Jimmie Henson and Christian Farris earning an 8-5 decision at number one doubles while Bobby Clark and Nathan Schmidt grabbed an 8-4 victory to put the YellowJackets up 2-0. Washington College would cut the LETU lead in half by earning a 9-8 (7-4 victory over Zac Crowley-Kurth and James Estrada at number two doubles to set up an even more exciting round of singles play. 

With the six singles matches finishing in order, Henson would be the second to suffer a heartbreaking setback by falling 6-7 (6-8), 6-3, 10-8 while Farris would put LeTourneau back up by a score of 3-2 after a 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 14-12 marathon win at number two singles. Schmidt would grab a 6-7 (2-7), 7-5, 10-3 win at number three singles before Paulo Cressio would fall 6-1, 6-3 at number four singles. Clark would be unable to carry over momentum from his doubles match at number five singles to fall by scores of 6-1, 6-2 as the Shoremen would tie things at 4-4 heading into the number six singles match. The final match would see Jeffrey Golladay win the first set by a score of 6-1, but fall 1-6, 7-5, 10-4 in a tiebreak as Washington College would escape with a victory. 

LETU will return to the Lone Star State and have a little more than a week off before playing host to Concordia University Texas at the Davis Tennis Courts at 4 p.m. on Friday, March 22nd.
