Where Are They Now Archives
The LeTourneau University Athletic Department is catching up with YellowJacket alumni to see "Where Are They Now" after finishing their LETU Athletic Careers. Every two weeks, a new student-athlete alumnus will be featured, so be sure to check back often to read about what the YellowJackets of the past have been up to.
Â
Our latest edition of "Where Are They Now" takes us back to the mid-2000's to catch up with former volleyball player Jennifer "McCool" Wheeler (2003-2006).
Â
Originally from Gilmer, Texas and Harmony High School, Wheeler would join the YellowJackets for the 2003 season after being named a two-time district MVP and Second-Team All-State selection. Jennifer would break out during her freshman campaign by appearing in 87 sets and recording 224 kills to earn First-Team All-ASC East honors and would be twice named ASC East hitter of the week while earning ASC-East Honorable Mention honors as a sophomore. During her junior and senior years, Wheeler would earn ASC East Division Honorable Mention accolades and go on to set the LeTourneau career-record in kills (1,078) solo blocks (114), and total blocks (267). Jennifer also holds the LETU single-season record for kills (363) and single-match record for kills (31) while finishing her career with a .271 attack percentage and 624 digs.
Â
After graduating in May of 2007, Wheeler began teaching at West Rusk ISD where she has been for 12 years and is currently a special education teacher. Jennifer has also taught high school English and coached for seven years during her time with West Rusk.
Â
Wheeler and her husband Brady have been married for five years and have two daughters (Emilyn – age 3, Meredith – age 1) and currently reside in Kilgore.
