LONGVIEW, Texas – Looking to build momentum ahead of next week's American Southwest Conference Tournament, the LeTourneau University men's tennis team would be turned back by visiting University of Texas-Tyler by a final margin of 6-3 at the Davis Tennis Courts in Longview, Texas on Monday, April 15th.
 
The non-conference finale leaves LETU with an 11-7 overall mark while the Patriots improved to 6-8 overall.
 
In a trio of back-and-forth doubles matches, it would be the YellowJackets who would grab a 9-8 (7-4) win from 
Jimmie Henson and 
Christian Farris at number one doubles before seeing 
Zac Crowley-Kurth and 
James Estrada fall by a score of 8-5 at number two doubles. Number three doubles would also wind up being an 8-5 decision as 
Nathan Schmidt and 
Bobby Clark would be unable to give LETU the lead going into singles play.
 
The common theme of tiebreakers would carry over into singles action as Henson would nearly pull out a win before falling 1-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) at number one singles while Farris would drop a 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 decision at number two singles. Playing in his final regular-season match at home, Crowley-Kurth would be unable to secure a victory in a 6-3, 6-2 defeat at number three singles before seeing Schmidt earn a 7-6 (7-3), 6-0 win at number four singles. The final two matches of the evening saw 
Paulo Cressio drop a 6-4, 6-2 decision at number five singles while Clark picked up a 7-5, 0-6, 1-0 (10-3) win at number six singles.
 
What's Next?
With the 2019 ASC Tournament slated to get underway next week, LeTourneau will make the most of a short week by taking on Jacksonville College in an exhibition match at 4 p.m. tomorrow afternoon. Following a perfect 4-0 mark in conference play, LeTourneau will host the 2019 ASC Tournament April 25-27 at the Davis Tennis Courts.
