LONGVIEW, Texas- Entering their final regular season match before the American Southwest Conference Championship tournament, the LeTourneau University women's was unable to top the University of Texas at Tyler as they fell by a 7-2 decision at the Davis Tennis Courts on Monday, April 15th.
With the defeat, the YellowJackets drop to 8-9 overall while the Patriots improve to 9-9 on the year.
The very reliable number one doubles pair in
Katharine Waldthausen and
Maddison Brackenreg matched up well against their Patriot opponent and would earn an 8-5 victory to pick up an early point for LETU. The point would end up being the only doubles point for the YellowJackets as
Gracie Favela and
Terin Murray fell at number two doubles 8-5 while
Lauren Rockwell and
Samantha Trevino were only able to take one game from their Patriot opponent in an 8-1 loss.
Waldthausen used a close first set at number one singles and a strong second set to take down her opponent by scores of 7-6 (7-5) and 6-3 to put the YellowJackets on the board in singles play. Doing her best to add to the YellowJacket total at number two singles was Brackenreg as she pushed her match to three sets but was unable to take the deciding set as she fell by 7-5, 2-6, 6-2. The remaining matches on the day would see Favela fall at number three singles by scores of 6-1, 6-3 while Murray dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision. Texas-Tyler would also manage to pick up wins over LETU at number five and six singles as Rockwell would be defeated 6-0, 6-0 and
Mimi Samdi dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision in her only action of the afternoon.
