LeTourneau Men's Tennis Concludes Season In ASC Tournament Semifinals

LONGVIEW, Texas - Looking to avenge a season-opening loss, the LeTourneau University men's tennis team put their season on the line and went down swinging in a 5-1 defeat to the University of Texas-Dallas in the 2019 American Southwest Conference Men's Tennis Tournament Semifinals at the Davis Tennis Courts in Longview, Texas on Friday, April 26th.

LETU sees their season come to a close with a 12-9 overall record while the Comets advance to Saturday's ASC Tournament Championship with a 16-1 record.

Two of the three doubles matches were nail-biters to the finish as the number one doubles team of Jimmie Henson and Christian Farris would go toe-to-toe with their opponent before falling by a score of 9-7. Nathan Schmidt and Bobby Clark would also see a 9-7 final score go against them at number three doubles, as the duo battled back and forth throughout the entire match before conceding the final two games to the Comets. In the number two doubles match, Texas-Dallas would grab an 8-1 victory over Zac Crowley-Kurth and James Estrada which gave UTD a 3-0 lead going to singles play.

In singles action, Schmidt would drop a 6-1, 6-1 decision at number four singles which gave Texas-Dallas a 4-1 lead before seeing Clark get the YellowJackets on the board with a 6-0, 6-0 win at number six singles. The match would end following the number three singles match as Crowley-Kurth concluded his collegiate career with a 6-2, 6-0 defeat which gave the Comets the match clinch.

The 12 wins for LETU is the most since the 2013-14 seasons when the YellowJackets went 14-7 overall as LeTourneau would put together three consecutive double-digit winning seasons from 2011-12 to 2013-14. With 13 doubles wins this season, Henson and Farris have now won 27 doubles matches the past two seasons while the 14 wins by Clark in singles is the most since the 2013 season of Sindre Johnsgaard (16).
