LETU Athletics "Where Are They Now" Featuring Cody Ross

Where Are They Now Archives

The LeTourneau University Athletic Department is catching up with YellowJacket alumni to see "Where Are They Now" after finishing their LETU Athletic Careers. Every two weeks, a new student-athlete alumnus will be featured, so be sure to check back often to read about what the YellowJackets of the past have been up to.

Our latest installment of "Where Are They Now" finds us featuring former YellowJacket baseball standout and East Texas native Cody Ross (2000-2003). Originally from Tatum, Texas, Ross would join the YellowJackets for the 2000 season and would help LeTourneau during their transition from the NCCAA to the NCAA while guiding the YellowJackets to 66 wins during his four-year career. During his sophomore and junior campaigns, Ross would lead LETU in batting average and had a career .355 batting average at LeTourneau with 27 doubles, two triples, and two home runs while driving in 100 runs. Ross still ranks fifth all-time in games played (154) and RBI (100).

Following graduation from LeTourneau, Ross entered the high school ranks as a football coach and would land his first head coaching job at Nueces Canyon High School northwest of San Antonio. In three seasons with the Panthers, Ross led the Panthers to their first district win in four years and led the boy's track team to district and area championships. Ross would then take a job at Hamshire-Fannett for one season before moving back to to the East Texas area as offensive coordinator and assistant athletic director at Center High School.

A new opportunity would arrive for Ross on February 28th, 2019 when he would be named head football coach and athletic director at Beckville High School, less than 10 miles from where he grew up. It wasn't the first time that Ross had applied for the job at Beckville High School, but as he views things "I believe things happen for a reason. This is a great opportunity for me and my family and we're ready to get a little closer to home."
