LONGVIEW – LeTourneau men's tennis team won a pair of matches against McMurry University and Texas Lutheran University in the first day of the season Saturday at Davis Tennis Courts.
The YellowJackets beat McMurry, 6-3, before sweeping TLU, 9-0.
In the win over McMurry, the Jackets won two doubles matches.
Nathan Schmidt and Rodrigo Vazquez-Chairez beat McMurry's Zach Miller and Brynson Harmon, 8-0, at the No. 2 position.
Julian Lee and
Miles Grubbs were also victorious in their No. 3 match against McMurry's Joseph Diaz and Reid Smith, winning 8-2.
Jimmie Henson and
Christian Farris lost to McMurry's Carlos Martinez and Chase Daniell, 8-5, at the top flight.
In singles, Lee beat Miller, 6-0, 6-1, at the No. 3 spot. Schmidt beat Smith, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4. Vazquez-Chairez was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Diaz at No. 5. Grubbs defeated Trey Fambrough, 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 6 position. Henson lost to Martinez, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 1. Farris lost to Daniell, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, at No 2.
The YellowJackets coasted through doubles in the victory over Texas Lutheran, winning all three matches.
At No. 1 pairs, Henson and Farris beat Alex Talley and Matthew Stephenson, 8-1, in the last match to finish. Schmidt and Vazquez-Chairez breezed by Dylan Layne and Joshua Bowman, 8-0, at No. 2 for LETU's first point. Lee and Grubbs beat Dristan Weaver and Aaron Bulla, 8-1, at the No. 3 flight.
In singles, Henson triumphed over Talley, 6-2, 6-1, at the top spot. Farris collected a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Stephenson at No. 2 singles. Lee beat Bowman, 6-4, 6-0, at the No. 3 position. At No. 4 singles, Schmidt beat Weaver, 6-1, 6-0. Vazquez-Chairez rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Layne at No. 5.
Gavin Meyer picked up a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the No. 6 flight.
The YellowJackets will host an alumni match 10 a.m. next Saturday at Davis Tennis Courts.
