LONGVIEW – The YellowJackets jumped on the Lobos early, and put them away to secure the series Saturday.
LeTourneau University's baseball team beat Sul Ross State, 8-2, at Conrad-Vernon Field to win the final two games of the series. It was their second series victory of the season.
The YellowJackets (5-4, 2-1 American Southwest Conference) rode
Kolbey Sharpe's arm for eight innings in a lights-out performance. The junior from Carthage, Texas struck out 11, and scattered seven hits, not allowing the two runs until the ninth inning when he was replaced by
Will Bradshaw to close it out. Bradshaw faced three batters without allowing a base runner and picking up a strikeout to seal the deal.
Cody Lee's two-run double down the left field line in the first set the tone.
Anthony Ybarra drew an RBI walk with the sacks loaded to spot the Jackets a 3-0 lead.
Weston McKinley drove in a run on a groundout in the second.
Noah Mahoney homered for the second straight day – a solo shot in the third to make it 5-0.
Mahoney was 2-for-4, bumping his average over 100 points in the series.
Bradshaw, who went 5-for-5 with a double, triple and two RBI, singled home
Chaz Jackson and Ybarra in the fifth to give the YellowJackets a seven-run lead. Lee's RBI single to left later in the inning made it 8-0.
Lee went 2-for-5 with three RBI. Ybarra was 2-for-3 with two walks.
The YellowJackets will hit the road next weekend for a three-game set at Howard Payne Friday and Saturday.
