ALPINE, Texas – LeTourneau's softball team lost the final game of a three-game series to Sul Ross State Saturday, 3-2.
The YellowJackets (6-3, 2-1 American Southwest Conference) outhit the Lobos (5-2, 1-2), but couldn't overcome a three-run first inning deficit. LETU scored twice in the fourth to tighten it up, but couldn't push the tying run across.
Kennedi Dillow had two hits, and
Ashley Crawford drove in both of the runs on a single to left to score
Katelyn Trombley and
Kiley Banks.
Ethel Warren,
Callie Poore and
Maycie Walton each went 1-for-3.
Miranda Martinez had two hits and drove in a run, and Abbie Alvarado knocked in two runs for the Lobos, who collected four hits, but only one in the last five innings after
Bailey Richey came on in relief. Richey struck out six, and allowed one walk in the 17 batters she faced.
Jade Merrell took the loss, allowing four hits, three runs and a hit in the opening inning. Jodie Vaughn picked up the win, going the distance, and allowing six hits, two runs and two walks, while striking out eight.
The YellowJackets host Howard Payne Friday and Saturday at LETU Softball Field.
