Jackets sophomore pitcher
Bailey Richey (4-0) twirled a three-hitter, and struck out four to get the win in the circle. With the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the seventh, she induced a pop up for the final out and the victory.
LETU outhit Central, 8-3, in handing the nationally-ranked Dutch (4-1) their first loss.
Callie Poore had two doubles, and drove in a run, and
Madelyn Tannery had two hits and an RBI.
Trailing 2-0 in the first, the Jackets cut the lead in half on a double steal when
Kiley Banks broke for second, and
Emilee Anderson raced home. Poore doubled to left to bring home Banks to tie it at 2. Tannery tripled to center, scoring Poore for what amounted to the gamewinning run.
Richey retired six straight batters after the first before walking the leadoff hitter in the fourth and then striking out the last two hitters in the inning. She struck out another batter in the fifth, and Poore threw out a runner trying to steal third to end the inning. Central went in order in the sixth with Richey fanning the leadoff batter. She got out of the jam in the seventh to pick up the win.
It was the second time this season, and the first since the season opener, she's worked all seven innings to record the victory.
Kennedi Dillow,
Taylor Nichols and Anderson went 1-for-3.
Ashley Crawford was 1-for-2 with a double.
In the second game, the Jackets jumped out to 3-0 lead in the first inning. Dillow's sacrifice bunt scored Anderson. Poore doubled to center to drive in a run, and
Ethel Warren's RBI groundout gave LETU a three-run lead.
But Alma (9-3) tied the game in the third when Bry Chapman doubled home a run. Hadyn Terwilliger had a two-run homer in the next inning to give the Scots the lead, and LeTourneau never threatened again.
Anderson had three hits, including a double, in the second game, bumping her average to .421.
Maycie Walton had two hits in three plate appearances. Tannery, Dillow, Crawford and Banks each had a hit.
Tannery took the loss, allowing 10 hits and nine runs in 4 1/3 innings.
