LONGVIEW – LeTourneau University's softball team lost both games of a doubleheader to McMurry Friday, 8-4 and 9-5.
The YellowJackets (4-6, 3-5 American Southwest Conference) will host the War Hawks (9-4, 5-3) in the final game of the three-game series 12 p.m. Saturday.
LeTourneau took a 4-3 lead in the first game when
Ethel Warren ripped a two-run single in the fourth inning.
Haley Claterbaugh's single to left drove in
Lauren Wilking earlier in the inning.
McMurry reclaimed the lead on Cayleigh England's two-run single in the fifth. The War Hawks added three runs in the top of the seventh to put it away.
Emilee Anderson went 3-for-3, and scored two runs. Warren was 1-for-3 with two RBI. Claterbaugh was 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Hana Bonner and
Ashley Crawford each had a hit.
The War Hawks outhit the Jackets, 13-7. Savannah Flinn was 4-for-5 with a double and two RBI, and Angelica Abila was 3-for-5 for McMurry.
Kinleigh Stotts got the win in 3.1 innings of scoreless relief. She allowed a hit and a walk, and struck out three. Bailey Richie took the loss, giving up five earned runs, 13 hits and two walks, while striking out six. McMurry starter Bekah Chance gave up four runs on six hits and three walks in 3.2 innings.
In the nightcap, the YellowJackets scored four runs in the second inning to take a 4-1 lead.
Alysa Torres singled up the middle to drive in two runs.
Hunter Handley singled to right to drive in a run. Anderson grounded out to score Handley.
The War Hawks scored six runs in the fourth to jump back ahead, 7-4. Kelsey Ahart's homer to left made it 9-4.
Torres doubled in a run in the seventh, but the YellowJackets couldn't push another run across.
Torres was 3-for-4 with three RBI. Claterbaugh was 2-for-3.
Mickenzie Murry went 2-for-2 with a walk.
Lauren Wilking was 2-for-3.
Callie Poore,
Katelyn Trombley, Anderson, Warren and Handley each had one hit. Warren and Murry each had a stolen base.
Ahart was 2-for-3 with a double, home run and five RBI, and Jessica Truax had two hits and an RBI for the War Hawks.
The YellowJackets outhit the War Hawks, 15-8, in Game 2.
Nicole Pinney went the distance, allowing five runs on 15 hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
Hannah Welch suffered the loss, allowing six earned runs on seven hits. LETU's
Jade Merrell pitched the final inning and two thirds of scoreless relief, allowing no hits and one walk.
