LONGVIEW – LeTourneau University women's soccer team settled for a 1-1 double overtime tie with the University of the Ozarks Thursday.
It was the second draw of the season for the YellowJackets, and their first in American Southwest Conference play. Both ties have come against ASC opponents, although the first was against Concordia Texas in a nonconference matchup on Feb. 5.
LETU (2-6-2, 1-3-1 ASC) took a 1-0 lead 4:18 into the game when
Reagan Sandford tucked a shot underneath the crossbar, over the reach of Ozarks goalkeeper Sydney Frazier. The ball caromed off the crossbar, and bounced down over the goal line.
Kara Gipson assisted on the goal.
It was Sandford's fifth goal of the season.
It was the only goal of the first half. LeTourneau matched Ozarks (1-5-1, 0-3-1) with four shots in the first half.
The Eagles tied the game in the 77
th minute when Jessica Alvarado scored off a corner kick scramble in front of the goal. The score remained tied through the rest of regulation.
Ozarks outshot LETU, 4-2, in the second half.
In the first overtime, Rebecca Peterson gave the Eagles a chance to win it when she sent a shot to the top right side, but LeTourneau keeper
Kiersten Reeser made the save. In the 100
th minute,
Drew Lessert's shot was stopped by Frazier.
Lessert gave the Jackets another chance for victory with a shot to the lower left side in the 102
nd minute, but Frazier made the save. Bella Salazar gave the Eagles one last chance, sending a shot to the bottom left, but Reeser stopped it.
The Eagles outshot the YellowJackets, 15-9, with an 8-4 advantage on goal.
Reeser finished with seven saves. Frazier had three.
LeTourneau will host Belhaven at 2 p.m. Saturday in the final home game of the season.
