Softball Wins Opener, Falls in Nightcap

AUSTIN, Texas – LeTourneau's softball team split a doubleheader at Concordia Texas Friday, winning the opener, 5-3, and losing the second game, 10-1.

Ashley Crawford had a career-high four hits, including a double and two RBI in the first game. She had three hits that produced runs for the YellowJackets (4-3, 3-2 American Southwest Conference).

Crawford doubled down the right field line in the second inning to score Isabela Tresca. Crawford singled to center on a 1-2 count in the fourth to bring home Hana Bonner.

After Concordia Texas (4-5, 1-4) scored a run in both the fifth and seventh innings to tie the game, Crawford delivered again, this time in extra innings. She singled to right, and Hana Bonner scored on an error. Emilee Anderson produced her first extra base hit of the year, resulting in her first RBI when she doubled to left center on an eight-pitch 2-2 count to score Crawford. That made it 4-2.

Ethel Warren singled down the left field line in the eighth to give the YellowJackets a three-run lead. Concordia Texas picked up a run in the eighth, but LETU starter Bailey Richey got a fielder's choice ground ball with two runners on base to end the game.

Warren, Bonner and Mickenzie Murry each had two of LETU's 13 hits.

Richey gave up six hits, three runs, three walks, and struck out four to improve to 3-1. It was her second complete game of the year.

Tresca's RBI single in the fourth accounted for the YellowJackets' lone run in Game 2.

Bonner, Tresca and Warren each had a hit, amounting for all three LETU hits.

LeTourneau starter Alysa Torres gave up five runs on three hits, five walks, a hit batter and a strikeout in 2.1 innings. Jade Merrell allowed five runs on seven hits in an inning of work. Sierra Manners didn't allow a base runner in two-thirds of an inning of relief.

The Jackets will meet the Tornados in the rubber game 12 p.m. Saturday.
