LETU Softball Strides Past Louisiana College

Jackets-Wildcats meet in DH Friday, following 11:30 a.m. 'For the Heroes' ceremony

LeTourneau University's softball team put together its most complete game of the season Thursday, beating Louisiana College, 6-1, in the opener of a three-game series. The two teams will meet in a doubleheader beginning at noon Friday. A pre-game ceremony to honor fallen soldiers will begin at 11:30 a.m.  
 
Bailey Richey (4-2) allowed one run, struck out six, and yielded nine hits and a walk to earn the victory in the circle. The Jackets (6-9, 5-8 American Southwest Conference) pounded 10 hits, with the top six spots in the lineup all producing. LETU scored in the first, third and fifth innings. Louisiana College's Cece Pace (1-6) took the loss, allowing four runs, six hits and a walk.
 
Katelyn Trombley went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBI. Callie Poore was 1-for-2 with two RBI, including a sacrifice fly. Emilee Anderson was 2-for-3 with a stolen base.
 
Poore's sacrifice fly to left in the bottom of the first scored Mickenzie Murry, who was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk. In the third, Poore singled to left to drive in Lauren Wilking, who went 1-for-4 with a double. Trombley had a two-run single to left to extend the lead to 4-0.
 
After Louisiana College (9-13, 4-6) scored a run in the fifth, LeTourneau added two more of its own in the bottom half of the inning. Trombley tripled down the right field line, scoring Hana Bonner, who was 1-for-3 with a stolen base. Macy Clevenger singled through the left side to drive in Trombley, stretching the Jackets' lead out to five.
 
Alysa Torres had a hit in four at-bats, and Clevenger was 1-for-3. Louisiana College's Kayla Dauthier collected three hits in four trips to the plate, and Desiree Squires was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
