LONGVIEW – LeTourneau's softball team split a doubleheader with the University of Texas at Dallas Saturday, winning the first game, 10-2, in five innings, and losing the second, 5-3, in nine innings.
The YellowJackets (13-12, 12-11 American Southwest Conference) belted 14 hits in the opener, and rode the arm of
Bailey Richey to a runaway win. UT Dallas (7-23, 5-18) turned the tables in the second game, rapping 14 hits of their own.
Mickenzie Murry's RBI single in the bottom of the fifth finished off the Comets in Game 1 of the five-inning run rule. The YellowJackets scored three runs in the inning to end it early.
Isabella Tresca homered to left, and
Ethel Warren's sacrifice fly to center set up Murry's game-ending hit.
Richey (8-2) allowed two unearned runs on a walk and three hits, while striking out seven in the victory. Devyn Yanello (3-9) took the loss, allowing seven earned runs on 14 hits and no walks.
Murry was 2-for-4. Tresca went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Ashley Crawford had three hits, and drove in a run.
Haley Claterbaugh had two hits in three trips to the plate.
Katelyn Trombley was 1-for-2 with two RBI, delivering her 100th career hit.
Hana Bonner went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Crawford's run-scoring single to right center in the third spotted LeTourneau a 5-1 lead. UTD scored on an error in the fifth to cut it to 7-2. But Tresca's second homer of the season set off the last inning fireworks.
In the second game, UT Dallas scored three runs in the first before
Alysa Torres came on in relief, following a leadoff triple by Jordan Evans in the third. She worked out of a jam, stranding two UTD runners in each of her first three innings. The Jackets picked up a run in the fourth when Bonner banged a single to right to score courtesy runner
Brooke Vaughn to make it 3-1.
Bonner's fielder's choice RBI with two outs in the sixth pulled the Jackets within a run. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Trombley banged a double to center that scored
Emilee Anderson, who singled and stole second. That tied the game at 3-3.
UT Dallas picked up the go-ahead runs in the top of the ninth when Nicole Peters had a two-run double to left center. The YellowJackets had no answer in the last half of the game as the Comets salvaged the split.
