MARSHALL, Texas – LeTourneau University's softball team lost the final game of its series at No. 7 East Texas Baptist Saturday, 7-1, to end the regular season.
The YellowJackets (14-15, 13-14) will need to win two games in the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament to assure themselves of a winning record. The ASC will release the postseason tournament bracket Sunday after the conclusion of the rest of the league's games.
LETU broke a scoreless drought in the top of the fifth when
Haley Claterbaugh belted a two-out double to center to drive in
Ashley Crawford. Crawford singled to center earlier in the inning. It was Claterbaugh's first double of the season, and it gave the Jackets a 1-0 lead.
But ETBU (26-5, 22-5) scored twice in the bottom half of the inning, and tacked don five more in the sixth to put the game away.
Claterbaugh went 1-for-2. Crawford and
Katelyn Trombley each were 1-for-3.
Tigers pitcher Hannah Kelley (7-2) went the distance, allowing three hits and a run, with no walks and five strikeouts in the win.
Hannah Welch (1-5) held the seventh-ranked Tigers at bay through four innings before the tables turned. She allowed 10 hits, six earned runs and no walks, and struck out two.
Jade Merrell faced one batter, using four pitches to get Hannah Garcia to pop out.
