RICHARDSON, Texas – LeTourneau University's baseball team lost to Texas at Dallas, 11-4, Thursday in the American Southwest Conference Tournament opening round.
The YellowJackets (15-21) will play Concordia Texas (19-12) at 10 a.m. Friday in an elimination game. UT Dallas (25-10) moves on to meet Mary Hardin-Baylor at 1 p.m.
LeTourneau scored first in the second on a sacrifice fly by
Cody Stanley. UT Dallas tied it in the second, and then took the lead in third. Stanley singled to left on an 0-1 count to knot the score at 2-2 in the fourth, but the Comets scored four runs in the bottom half of the inning to go ahead, 6-2.
Noah Arellano singled up the middle in the sixth, scoring
Weston McKinley to cut UT Dallas' lead in half. The Comets extended their lead to 11-3 in the eighth inning.
Bryce Brueggemeyer's sacrifice fly in the ninth drove in
Chaz Jackson, but the Jackets couldn't recover.
McKinley went 3-for-4 with two doubles. Stanley was 1-for-4 with two RBI. Brueggemeyer was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Arellano was 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Kameron Lindsey extended his season-long hitting streak to 14 games with a single.
David Pugh went 1-for-5.
Jaggar Vaughn was 1-for-2 with two walks.
The top seven spots in the YellowJackets' lineup all hit safely.
Raul Martinez (5-3) suffered the loss, giving up six runs on eight hits, three walks and three strikeouts in 3.2 innings.
Kolton Eberlan allowed four runs on seven hits, two walks and a strikeout in 3.1 innings.
William Bond worked one inning, allowing a run on two hits and a walk. Carter Cochrane (9-0) got the win for the Comets, allowing eight hits, three runs, no walks and a strikeout.
Jacob Perry, Deylan Moreno and A.J. Liu each had three hits, and combined for eight RBI for the Comets. Nick Bailey was 2-for-5 with two RBI.
