ABILENE, Texas – The LeTourneau University women's tennis team lost to McMurry University, 5-0, Thursday in the American Southwest Conference Tennis Championships Quarterfinals.
Bailey Deatherage and
Summer Apostalo fell to Claire Hillyer and Hope Turner, 8-0, at No. 1 doubles. In the No. 2 slot,
Sierra Linssen and
Julia Miller lost to Jasmie Klassen and Hannah DeFriend, 8-3.
Amber Van Duyn and
Brandy Weems were defeated by McMurry's Gabrielle Ellewanger and Morgan Parnell, 8-0, at No. 3.
The YellowJackets trailed 3-0 moving into singles play.
At No. 1 singles, Deatherage lost the first set to Hillyer, 6-0, before retiring in the second set. Linssen lost by retirement to Ellewanger, at the No. 2 position. In the No. 3 singles slot, Apostalo dropped the first set to Klassen, 6-2, before retiring in the second set. Weems lost to DeFriend, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4. At No. 5, Miller fell in the first set to Turner, 6-3, ultimately losing by retirement in the second set.
Mimi Samdi lost to Parnell, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 6 spot.
LeTourneau finishes the season 5-11 overall and 3-2 in the ASC.
All-Tournament Team selections will be announced Saturday, May 8 after the ASC finals match.
