LONGVIEW, Texas – LeTourneau University women's soccer team cruised to a 4-1 victory over Jarvis Christian College at the Joyce Family Athletic Facility Friday for its first win of the season.
The YellowJackets (1-2) drew first blood early, after a goal from senior
Reagan Sandford put the Jackets up, 1-0, five minutes into the contest.
"The girls came into the game ready and with a sense of urgency," head coach
Alyssa Taramona commented about her team's fast start.
Halfway through the first period, sophomore
Drew Lessert slid one passed the Lady Bulldogs' (0-2) goalkeeper into the corner of the net on a swift pass from Sandford, extending the LETU lead to two. Sandford struck again for the YellowJackets, punching a shot to the back of the net on an assist from
Miranda Coffey at the 23
rd minute mark. LeTourneau wasted no time ringing the alarm for another goal, scoring its final goal a minute later, after Coffey booted one in on a pass from Lessert, giving the Jackets a comfortable 4-0 lead.
Jarvis Christian snuck one in at the 86
th mark from a shot by Emmalee Lopez, but it wasn't enough to catch the Jackets.
"We were able to showcase what we've been working on the last few weeks," Taramona said. "This is a great steppingstone leading into our game against Millsaps."

Sandford had two goals and one assist. Lessert and Coffey had one goal and one assist each.
The YellowJackets outshot the Lady Bulldogs 24-11, with 13 on goal.
