LONGVIEW, Texas -- A first half goal stood up through the match as visiting Sul Ross defeated the LeTourneau women's soccer team, 1-0, on Thursday evening in ASC action at the Joyce Family Athletic Village.
Sul Ross' Joanna Estrada scored the match's only goal in the 11th minute, an unassisted strike, and the visiting Lobos made that score last to collect the win. The goal was Estrada's third of the year.
Kiersten Reeser made six saves at the net for LeTourneau (2-7-5, 0-5-3 ASC).
LeTourneau had opportunities to even the score. The YellowJackets tallied five shots in the second half and had seven attempts in the match.
Shelby Smith had the best look for LeTourneau in the first half as she received a cross from
Drew Lessert, but the attempt went just wide of the target. In the second half, three of the five attempts were on frame but Sul Ross keeper Alitzel Ybarra made saves on all three chances.
Smith and
Brandy Moran both had looks in the 69th minute, with Smith's shot handled by Ybarra.
Claire Martinez also had two shots on target in the half.
Ybarra made three saves to collect the shutout. Sul Ross (5-6-2, 2-4-2 ASC) held a 14-7 shot advantage, led by four attempts from Judith Macias.
