YellowJackets lose late lead

Patel settled for no-decision in fourth consecutive quality start

KERRVILLE, Texas – Schreiner spoiled Aman Patel's fourth quality start in succession, rallying late to walk-off LETU 9-8, in the rubber-game of the weekend series at Bob Henry Field Sunday.

The YellowJackets drop to 6-13 on the season, while the Mountaineers improved to 8-7.

Patel spun 6.0 innings, allowing four runs – three earned – surrendering four hits and three walks, while fanning seven. It's his fourth no-decision in six starts.

LETU banged out 12 hits, including three each from Ethan Wood and Cameron Pfafman. Dane Jones added a multi-hit game, including a home run. Anthony Ybarra, Dylan Cortes, Carter Amarantos, and Weston McKinley added a knock each.

Trailing 2-0 and 3-1 in the early going, the YellowJackets capitalized on a couple errors by the home squad to plate three in the fifth, taking a 4-3 advantage in midway through the contest. An errant through permitted McKinley, who reached on a single to cross the dish. Pfafman followed with a double, scoring Wood and Devin Greaff.

Wood's double in the next frame pushed the margin out to two, but Schreiner responded with a solo run of its own.

Jones' blasted a solo shot with one out in the seventh, making the score 6-4. A hit-by-pitch, a single and a double steal by Cortes and Stanley placed a pair in scoring position. The duo scored to push the margin out to four.

With Patel out of the game, the Mountaineers evened the score at eight, with four runs on a double, with two walks, two miscues and a hit batsman.

The YellowJackets return to American Southwest Conference play Friday, March 18, when they take on Hardin-Simmons in Abilene. The opener is set for 7 p.m., with the teams wrapping the series with a doubleheader Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m.
