ABILENE, Texas – LETU fell to Hardin-Simmons 9-3 in the opener of Saturday's American Southwest Conference doubleheader at Hunter Field.
The YellowJackets drop to 6-15 overall, including 3-11 in league play, while the Cowboys improved to 9-9, 7-7.
Cameron Pfafman,
Carter Amarantos and
Devin Greaff registered two hits each, while
Ethan Wood and
Dylan Cortes added a knock a piece.
Raul Martinez got the start on the bump for LETU. He limited the damage in the second by inducing a ground ball double play, surrendering one run. Hardin-Simmons pushed it out to 3-0 with a two-run homer in the next frame.
Cortes opened the scoring for the YellowJackets in the fourth, bouncing one through the left side of the infield, plating Pfafman.
The home team busted the contest open with five runs on four hits, building an 8-1 advantage with three innings remaining in the seven-inning tilt. They added a solo tally in the sixth.
With bases loaded in their final at-bats, the YellowJackets pushed across runs on a groundout and a RBI single from Pfafman.
Landon Stocks allowed one run on four hits and struck out two in 2.1 innings of relief for Martinez.
