LONGVIEW, Texas – LETU softball dropped its final game of its series Wednesday evening to No. 8 East Texas Baptist, 8-2.
After two scoreless innings, the Tigers broke loose, tallying two runs in the top half of the third to take a 2-0 lead.
LETU wouldn't go away that easy, chopping the lead in half when
Madelyn Tannery singled up the middle to send
Laney Taylor in for a score.
In a pivotal sixth inning, ETBU struck again with one run in the top half to lead 3-1. In the bottom half, the YellowJackets had an opportunity to close the gap with runners in scoring position but a ground out and a fly out to center field dampened its chances.
The No. 8 team in the country put some distances between itself and LETU as it rallied off five runs in the decisive inning for a seven run lead, 8-1.
LETU made an effort to claw back in the bottom half of the inning when
Kylie Grisham took advantage of a bases loaded situation, singling to right field to send
Lexi Hutchins across home plate for a run. The Jacket's comeback attempt was cut short after a pitching change for the Tigers resulted in three straight outs.
Tannery, Grisham, Taylor, and
Callie Poore all had one hit on the day. Tannery took the Loss in the circle, pitching six innings with three strikeouts.
The YellowJackets return to LETU Softball Field Friday as it hosts Ozarks for its final series of the regular season, beginning with a doubleheader at 4 p.m.
