MARSHALL, Texas – Looking for its third series-win in succession, LETU suffered a doubleheader sweep against ETBU at Woods Field Saturday.
The YellowJackets dropped to 11-20, including 8-16 in American Southwest Conference play, while the Tigers improved to 23-9, 20-4.
Dane Jones and
Hunter Miller recorded two hits each, while
Ethan Wood,
Cameron Pfafman,
Cole Thompson and
Devin Greaff tallied a knock a piece. Jones was 2 for 4, including a double, with a run and a run-batted-in. Miller scored once and drove in another, going 2 for 2. Thompson came off the bench, notching an RBI double and run in two appearances at the dish.
Freshman
Aman Patel suffered his toughest outing of his rookie campaign, allowing five runs – three earned – on six hits, one walk and fanning one in 1.2 innings.
Pfafman put LETU on top with a single back through the middle, plating Wood in the first. After surrendering two in the home half of the frame, the YellowJackets got the equalizer on Miller's two-bagger in the top of the second.
ETBU busted the game open with five in the second, four in the third and another in the fourth.
LETU tallied solo markers in the fifth and sixth off the bats of Jones and Greaff.
Needing three outs to cap off the regularly scheduled seven-inning contest, the Tigers sent 13 to the plate, scoring eight on eight hits for the final tally.
All but two starters for the YellowJackets inked a hit in the nightcap, with six singles and a Pfafman double.
The Tigers built a 6-0 advantage with one each in the first and fifth, coupled with a pair in the second and fourth.
In the eighth, Wood worked a lead-off walk and came around to score on singles by Jones and Miller.
LETU returns to Conrad Vernon Field for the final time in 2022, when the YellowJackets host UMHB in a three-game American Southwest Conference series. Friday's first pitch is at 7 p.m., with Saturday's doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. and will be preceded by a ceremony to honor the seniors on the team.
