RAYMOND, Miss. -- The LeTourneau women's tennis team opened the spring season on Saturday with a 6-3 victory over Belhaven at the Cleon McNight Tennis Center on the campus of Hinds Community College.
It was the spring opener for both teams. LeTourneau (1-0) has won five straight over its former ASC foe Belhaven (0-1). The YellowJackets later played Hinds CC in an exhibition.
Belhaven was short by one player leading to a pair of default wins for the YellowJackets at the No. 3 flight in doubles and No. 6 in singles.
LeTourneau split the doubles portion of the match as the YellowJackets took a win at the No. 2 flight with
Clara Brisman and
Emma Boulanger taking down the Blazers' Lillian Williams and Lily Grace, 8-1. That was after a tight battle at the top-flight saw Belhaven's Judith Mills and Evey Moore outlast LeTourneau's
Brandy Weems and
Elizabeth Moreau by a 9-7 score.
Moreau notched a win in singles as she defeated Moore at the No. 2 spot 6-2, 6-1. The win was one of three for the YellowJackets in singles action to secure the victory.
Boulanger earned a 6-1, 6-2 win over Grace at the No. 3 flight, while Brisman defeated Williams in three sets 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (8).Â
