AUSTIN, Texas -- The LeTourneau baseball team held for a 5-4 win on the day and marked a win for the road trip series on Saturday over Concordia.
LeTourneau (10-11, 4-5 ASC) marked their first series win at Concordia (12-8, 5-4 ASC) in the NCAA era.
The YellowJackets opened up the scoring the third after
Carter Amarantos led off with a double and stole third base leaving him 90 feet away to be followed by three straight walks which allowed him to cross the plate.
Dylan Cortes found a hit with the bases juiced and marked himself a pair of RBIs to extend the lead to three.
Cole Thompson kept the runs coming for the Jackets in the fourth with an RBI allowing
Devin Greaff to come home and score. The YellowJackets led 4-0 after four innings played.
Aman Patel (2-3) was on the bump to start for LeTourneau. Patel had a dominate outing allowing just three hits through 6.0 innings. He marked six strikeouts and allowed just one earned run. He was credited with the win on the day.
Concordia filled in a frame in the fifth when Chris Murrow singled for and RBI to make it 4-1 with the Jackets still on top.
Looking for some insurance runs, Amarantos put one into play in the fifth to allow
Lane Williams to score one more making it 5-1 in favor of LeTourneau.
The YellowJackets were not out of Austin just yet as the home team stage a rally in the bottom of the ninth similar to Friday evening. The Tornadoes scored three runs and left runners on base before the Jackets bullpen brought in
Will Bond (S, 2) who allowed a hit before forcing a pop up and a flyout to end the game and secure a win for the Jackets.
David Matthews got the loss at he pitched 3.0 innings. He allowed five hits, four earned runs, and five walks. Matthews also marked seven strikeouts. Julian Swift led the Tornadoes offensively with three hits and an RBI on the day.
