LONGVIEW, Texas -- The LeTourneau baseball team split a doubleheader with Howard Payne on Saturday and claimed the series victory with a 13-0 win in the finale.
It was a tale of two games as LeTourneau (12-12, 6-6 ASC) dropped the first game 17-4, but bounced back to win game two 13-0 in a similar fashion to topple Howard Payne (10-12, 5-7 ASC) and clinch the series. It is the third ASC series won by LeTourneau this season.
GAME TWO: LeTourneau 13, Howard Payne 0
Aman Patel was dazzling on the mound and the offense scored all 13 runs over a three-inning stretch in a 13-0 victory in the second game.
Patel (3-3) stayed hot on the mound after allowing just three hits a week ago against Concordia. On Saturday, he also allowed just three hits to Howard Payne while striking out a season-high of 10 in 6.0 innings pitched. Patel has allowed just two earned runs over his last three starts (17.1 innings) with 25 strikeouts.
Will Bond came in to close out the game for the YellowJackets to finish off the run-rule win.
A scoreless game through three innings before LeTourneau's
Cameron Pfafman triple to start the fourth and scored on a Carter Amarantso ground out to make it 1-0.
Devin Greaff brought a couple more in with his RBI single to make it 3-0 later in the frame.
Pfafman continued to contribute to the scoring in the fifth inning with his RBI single which brought in
Dane Jones.
Ethan Wood delivered a two-run RBI single through the right side, and
Andrew Klingenstein scored on a throwing error to make it 7-0 YellowJackets on top.
Pfafman collected another RBI in the bottom of the sixth. Amarantos was quick to follow with a two-RBI single to bring across Jones and Maysonave. Klingenstein kept it rolling for the Jackets with an RBI single to plate Pfafman. Finally, Williams finished the scoring for LeTourneau with his single which allowed Klingenstein and Amarantos to score.
Williams extended his hitting streak to 11, Jones added to his to make it 10 in a row. Williams has also reached base in every game he has appeared in.
Gary Blair (1-1) got the loss with his 4.0 innings of work. He allowed five hits four earned runs, and marked two strikeouts.
GAME ONE: Howard Payne 17, LeTourneau 4
Howard Payne got off to a quick start and kept rolling for seven innings.
Brayden Ferrie was two outs short of a complete game and shutout until Jones sent one beyond the fence for a grand slam.
Howard Payne broke open the scoring in the first inning with a pair of runs scored off of a JP Zuniga-Rodriguez double to right center field.
Howard Payne went to double their score in the second inning with a run scored off of a double play that Williams made the throw to Wood who turned it over to Maysonave for the first two outs of the second inning.
With a 5-0 score in the fourth inning, Howard Payne's William Burford homered for a grand slam to score four more runs. The runs continued to come for the visitors who extended their lead to 17 by the seventh inning.
In the bottom of the seventh, Wood reached on a single to center field. Williams followed with a standup double down the left line. Thompson filled up the bases with a walk.
Dane Jones took the opportunity to smoke one out to the left field to add four runs to the home side of the scoreboard. It was number eight on the season for Jones, his first grand slam.
Ferrie (4-0) got the win for Howard Payne for his 6.1 innings of work allowing four earned runs, three walks, and marked seven strikeouts.
Dalton Pickett (0-4) was charged with the loss for his 3.1 innings pitched where he allowed seven hits, seven runs, five earned runs, and one walk. Pickett had six strikeouts on the day.

LeTourneau will travel to Shreveport on Tuesday to face off against Centenary for the second time this year (6 p.m.).
