ALPINE, Texas -- For the first time this season the LeTourneau softball team came up on the short end as the YellowJackets could not complete a three-game sweep of Sul Ross in an 8-0 loss on Saturday in Alpine.
The loss snapped a six-game winning streak for LeTourneau (6-1, 2-1 ASC) to open the year, but the YellowJackets still took the ASC series. Sul Ross moves to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in league play.
LeTourneau managed just two hits in the loss as
Callie Poore and
Mickenzie Murry each tallied a hit. The YellowJackets' best chance to score came in the fifth, but LeTourneau could not come through with the bases loaded and one out.
Sul Ross starter Erin Trevino (1-0) allowed just two hits and one walk over 4.1Â innings to notch the win.
The host Lobos got a run in the first and then scored seven runs over the final three frames to take the run-rule victory. Annika Canaba went 3-for-3 and Jaelyn Zuniga was also 3-for-3 in the win. Sul Ross totaled 11 hits.
Laney Taylor (0-1) made her first start of the season in the circle and picked up the loss.

LeTourneau hosts St. John Fisher on Monday for a home doubleheader (4 p.m.).
