LONGVIEW, Texas -- The LeTourneau softball team comes up just short of a series win on Saturday with a pair of losses to #24 ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor.
LeTourneau (16-9, 6-6) kept them close dropping the first one 2-0, and the second 3-1 to the visiting Mary-Hardin Baylor.
GAME ONE: UMHB 2, LeTourneau 0Â
Â
In Saturday's opener, UMHB scored two runs in the second inning as the visiting Cru evened the series with a 2-0 victory.Â
Â
Hailee Leger (6-6) threw a complete game and kept the YellowJackets in the game as she allowed two runs while scattering 12 hits and striking out four.Â
Â
UMHB scored twice on five hits in the second inning. Allyse Castillo had an RBI fielder's choice and Lexi Harris added a run-scoring single to make it 2-0. UMHB looked like it had taken a 4-0 lead on a LeTourneau error, but Harris was called out for runner interference to negate the play and keep it a 2-0 score.Â
Â
LeTourneau could not get the bats going against UMHB starter Kami Flores.
Laney Taylor's one-out double in the fifth inning was the only base hit for the YellowJackets. Â
Â
Alexa Neilon and
Hunter Handley both worked walks in the game.Â
Â
Flores (9-3) finished with three strikeouts and two walks in her complete-game effort. Lindsey Polleschultz and Izzy Gutierrez had three hits apiece in the UMHB win.Â
GAME TWO: UMHB 3, LeTourneau 1
In the rubber match that was game three UMHB held on to win 3-1 to take the series.
In a defensive game, the LeTourneau found four hits as compared to the Cru's six. Mary Hardin-Baylor scored a run early in the first with an RBI single from Crofut. The Cru added to their score when Harris marked a double to plate two runs, putting the Cru ahead 3-0 after four innings.
Murphy Williams (9-2) found her way around the strike zone marking nine K's on the day. Williams allowed three runs with two of them being earned.
The YellowJackets looked to rally at the bottom of the fifth, as they moved some runners around the bags.
Mickenzie Murry singled into right field far enough for
Lauren Wilking to come home from second base. The rally attempt died out there with that being the last run scored for the Jackets.Â
Grason Long (7-4) got the win for the Cru for her 7.0 innings of work. She allowed four hits and one earned run and marked five strikeouts.
