Softball Loses Two Close Games at No. 12 ETBU

MARSHALL, Texas -- The LeTourneau softball team played No. 12 East Texas Baptist tight, but the host Tigers completed a three-game sweep with 2-0 and 3-2 victories over the YellowJackets at Taylor Field on Tuesday evening in ASC play.

LeTourneau drops to 16-12 overall and 6-9 in ASC play, while ETBU goes to 24-4 and 11-4.

GAME ONE: ETBU 2, LeTourneau 0

Hailee Leger was strong in the circle for LeTourneau, but ETBU scratched across a run in the fifth and in the sixth innings to come away with a 2-0 victory.

Leger (6-7) went six innings and allowed one earned run on six hits with a pair of strikeouts.

LeTourneau had two hits in the game as ETBU starter Ashley Croft (11-1) limited the YellowJackets. Lauren Wilking singled in the sixth inning and Laney Taylor had a two-out single in the seventh, but the YellowJackets would not be able to get a runner in scoring position.

ETBU broke a scoreless game in the fifth as Croft bounced into a fielder's choice and Tristen Maddox beat the throw home to put the Tigers up 1-0. In the sixth, Marin Musicant delievered an RBI single to stretch the lead to 2-0.

Musicant had two of ETBU's six hits.

GAME TWO: ETBU 3, LeTourneau 2

LeTourneau scored two runs in the seventh to tie the game, but ETBU's Courtney White produced a walk-off single in the bottom of the inning to give the Tigers a 3-2 win.

Down by two in the seventh, LeTourneau scored twice on four hits. Kylie Grisham led off with an infield single and was at second base with two outs. Back-to-back doubles from Murphy Williams and pinch-hitter Callie Poore plated two runs for the YellowJackets to even the score.

LeTourneau nearly took the lead one batter later Rylie Shipp singled to left field, but pinch-runner Graci Hart was thrown out trying to score the go-ahead run to keep the game tied.

In the home half of the inning, White came up with runners at second and third with nobody out and delivered the game-winning hit.

Williams (9-4) went all six innings in the circle for LeTourneau as she struck out four and scattered five hits. Hannah Kelley (10-2) got the win in relief for ETBU.
