Murphy Williams hitting.
Williams threw a no-hitter and hit two home runs, including a game-ending two-run homer, to lead the LeTourneau softball team to a 9-0 victory over McMurry on Saturday to complete a three-game sweep in the ASC series.
Williams became the fourth pitcher to toss a no-hitter in LeTourneau program history, and the first to do it since Taylor Thibodeaux in 2012. She also became the first YellowJacket to hit two homers in a game since 2019.
The effort in the circle and at the plate from Williams finished off a three-game sweep for LeTourneau (19-12, 9-9 ASC) as the YellowJackets collected their first conference series sweep of the season.
In the circle, Williams (11-4) was dominant from the start. She retired the McMurry side in order in the first inning on just eight pitches, capped with a strikeout, and had four 1-2-3 innings in the game. It was Williams' 11th complete-game of the year as she also collected her 11th victory.Â
Williams only allowed two baserunners; a hit-by-pitch in the second inning and a walk in the fourth inning. In all, she threw 76 pitches and totaled five strikeouts.
At the plate, Williams accounted for the final four runs LeTourneau scored. Her two-run homer to left field in the fifth inning made it 7-0 YellowJackets and then she ended the game with another two-run shot to left field in the sixth. Williams finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored.
LeTourneau grabbed a 4-0 lead with four runs in the second inning. All four runs scored after two outs as
Lauren Wilking drove home
Lexi Hutchins with an RBI single to get LeTourneau on the board before an
Alexa Neilon two-run double and a
Kylie Grisham RBI single made it 4-0.
Neilon added another RBI hit as her run-scoring single in the fourth extended the YellowJacket lead to 5-0. Neilon went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and a walk.Â
Hutchins and Grisham also had two hits each as LeTourneau totaled 12 in the victory.
Kinleigh Stotts (5-4) made the start and got the loss for McMurry after going four innings.
