Men's Tennis Ends Season at St. Thomas

HOUSTON, Texas -- Senior Kenny Munoz collected his first career singles win in a dual match as the LeTourneau men's tennis team concluded the season with a 7-2 loss at St. Thomas on Monday in Houston.

The match was moved to Monday after being originally scheduled for April 14.

LeTourneau ends the year 4-10 overall.

Munoz had a hand in both of the YellowJacket points on Monday as he earned a doubles win with teammate John Lewis before notching the singles win. Munoz and Lewis combined to defeat Hunter-Kemball Cook and Carson Steele at the No. 3 flight, 8-5. In singles, Munoz took down Cook in three sets 6-1, 1-6, 7-5.

St. Thomas (4-7) narrowly took a 2-1 lead after doubles play. LeTourneau's top-flight team of Julian Lee and Zach Farris fell, 8-6, to Rodrigo Yoshikata and Jace Ware, while Miles Grubbs and Andres Urrutia were also defeated 8-6 by Tyler Head and Race Haas at No. 2.

More tight matches followed in singles play, but the host Celts took wins in five of the six spots. Lee fell to Yoshikata in three sets 6-7(5), 6-2, 10-5 at the No. 1 spot, while Farris fell 6-2, 6-4 to Head at No. 2. Urrutia had a close contest at No. 3 before ultimately falling to Haas 6-4, 6-3.
