ABILENE, Texas -- The LeTourneau baseball team could not overcome the hot bats of Hardin-Simmons as the YellowJackets dropped both games on Saturday by 4-3 and 15-7 scores to finish out the ASC series in Abilene.
LeTourneau (17-20, 11-13 ASC) was playing its 12th and 13th consecutive road games.
GAME ONE: Hardin-Simmons 4, LeTourneau 3
LeTourneau grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Hardin-Simmons answered with three runs in its half and held off a YellowJacket rally to take Saturday's opener 4-3.
Dane Jones and
Cameron Pfafman each had two hits in the loss and Pfafman added two RBIs.Â
Pfafman gave the YellowJackets a 1-0 lead in the first as his double down the line scored Jones. A Hardin-Simmons error on
Cole Thompson's ball in play allowed a second run to come across for LeTourneau.
However, Hardin-Simmons scored three times in its half of the first and grabbed a 3-2 lead. The host Cowboys added a run in the thrid inning to make it 4-2. Pfafman helped LeTourneau chip away at the deficit with an RBI single in the fifth inning.
LeTourneau got a two-out single in the seventh from
Carter Amarantos, but could not push across the tying run.
Aman Patel (4-6) went six innings and allowed two earned runs on seven hits in the loss.
Brandon Bane (2-8) got the win in relief as he went the final 5.1 innings out of the bullpen.
GAME TWO: Hardin-Simmons 15, LeTourneau 7
A seven-run eighth inning broke open a close game and gave Hardin-Simmons a 15-7 win and a series sweep.
LeTourneau trailed 6-0 entering the sixth inning, but got within 8-7 with two runs in the sixth and seventh innings before a three-run eighth. Hardin-Simmons widened the margin in the eighth with seven runs as the Cowboys scored double-digit runs for the second time in the series.
Thompson and
Ethan Wood each had two hits for LeTourneau in the loss, while
Dane Jones launched his 12th home run of the year. Jones' homer was a solo shot in the eighth that kicked off the three-run inning as Wood delivered an RBI single later in the inning to bring the YellowJackets within 8-7.
Dalton Pickett (0-6) made the start and picked up the loss for the YellowJackets. Brandon Girod (1-1) went five innings and notched the win for Hardin-Simmons (17-20, 12-12 ASC).

LeTourneau returns home for the final three regular season games against UT Dallas next weekend. Game one is Friday at 7 p.m.
