RICHARDSON, Texas --
Hailee Leger tossed an eight-inning shutout and the LeTourneau softball team squeezed past UT Dallas, 2-0, in extras in game one before dropping game two, 3-2, to complete the ASC series on Sunday afternoon in Richardson.
LeTourneau (23-14, 13-11 ASC) clinched a berth into the ASC Tournament with the game one win. The YellowJackets finish the regular season on May 5-6 against Ozarks at home before the ASC Tournament begins on May 11.
GAME ONE: LeTourneau 2, UT Dallas 0
Leger threw an eight-inning, complete-game, shutout and LeTourneau scored two runs in the eighth to come away with a 2-0 extra-inning win over UT Dallas in Sunday's opener.
Leger and UT Dallas starter Emilie Hoelscher dueled throughout the game, with both throwing seven shutout innings to send the game into extras.
Lauren Wilking led off the eighth with a single and
Kylie Grisham followed with a single of her own.
Mickenzie Murry's sacrifice bunt ended up loading the bases as the Comets could not get an out. With one out and the bases loaded,
Murphy Williams hit a grounder to second base and the Comets tried to get Wilking at home, but the ball skipped away allowing both Wilking and Grisham to come in and give the YellowJackets a 2-0 lead.
Leger (8-7) shut the door in the bottom of the eighth to secure the win. The right-hander scattered eight hits in her eight innings and struck out four while not issuing a walk and throwing only 93 pitches.
It was the second time this season Leger had pitched a complete-game that went into extra innings.
Wilking had two hits while Grisham, Hendry, Williams, and
Rylie Shipp each had a hit.
Hoelscher (12-7) got the loss in the circle.
GAME TWO: UT Dallas 3, LeTourneau 2
Game three of the series also came down to the final inning as the Comets' Sarah Lewis was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh that brought home the winning run in a 3-2 victory for the hosts.
LeTourneau battled back twice in the game. A
Kenna Hendry RBI double in the fourth inning knotted the game at 1-1 and then
Callie Poore produced a game-tying RBI single in the sixth to even the score at 2-2.
LeTourneau had a chance to take the lead in the seventh as Murry walked to open the inning before Williams singled to put runner at first and second with nobody out, Hoelscher, however, was able to get out of the jam without allowing a run and set the stage for the Comets in the bottom of the seventh.
Williams (12-6) went 6.1 innings and allowed one earned run while striking out eight in the loss. Five different YellowJackets had one hit each.
Hoelscher (13-8) got the win in relief after tossing one inning.
