MARSHALL, Texas -- After the series was delayed by two days, the LeTourneau baseball team and East Texas Baptist finally got underway on Saturday in Marshall. ETBU took both games of the twin-bill, 10-0 and 15-7.
LeTourneau (14-16, 8-9 ASC) and ETBU (20-8, 15-2 ASC) wrap up the series on Monday in Marshall.
GAME ONE: ETBU 10, LeTourneau 0
A six-run first inning propelled ETBU to a 10-0 victory in Saturday's opener.
LeTourneau was limited to two hits in the contest as
Cole Thompson singled to leadoff the game and
Lane Williams had a double in the fifth inning. The fifth inning was LeTourneau's best chance to score as the YellowJackets put runners on second and third with two outs following Williams' double.
Ben Lea hit a grand slam in the first inning for ETBU as the host Tigers scored six runs and had a 7-0 lead after two innings.
Aman Patel (3-5) got the loss for LeTourneau in his start that lasted five innings. Sayers Collins (7-2) picked up the win for ETBU.
GAME TWO: ETBU 15, LeTourneau 7
Dane Jones,
Andrew Klingenstein, and Williams all had multi-hit games for LeTourneau, but the YellowJackets could not slow down ETBU in a 15-7 loss in the second game on Saturday.
Klingenstein had four hits as he went 4-for-5 with an RBI, while Jones was 3-for-5 with a run scored and Williams was 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs in the loss.
Carter Amarantos also homered and LeTourneau had 11 hits.
ETBU held a 3-0 lead after three innings, but LeTourneau got on the board in the fifth inning. Williams hit his second homer of the year, a solo shot to left-center field, to get the YellowJackets within 3-1.
But ETBU answered with nine runs in the bottom of the inning to break open the close game.Â
LeTourneau had a five-run ninth inning as Jagger Vaughn and Williams had RBI singles sandwiched around Amarantos' two-run homer to left-center -- his second of the year.
Riley Davis (4-2) made the start and got the loss for LeTourneau, while Peyton Miller (3-0) notched his third win of the year for ETBU.
