BELTON, Texas -- The historic season for the LeTourneau softball team came to an end on Friday evening with an 8-0 loss to No. 2 seed, and 15th-ranked, Mary Hardin-Baylor in an elimination game at the ASC Tournament.
LeTourneau ends the year with a program record 28-16 record. The 28 wins set a program mark and the .636 winning percentage was also a program record. It was the fifth 20-win season in the program's 24-season history.
Mary Hardin-Baylor (33-11) scored four runs in the top of the first and extended the lead to 7-0 after three innings.
Murphy Williams (13-8) made the start and got the loss in the circle for the YellowJackets. The senior had a phenomenal season as she totaled 14 complete games and a 2.74 ERA over a team-leading 125 innings of work. Williams also led the team in strikeouts with 103.
LeTourneau had three hits in the loss and
Kylie Grisham,
Mickenzie Murry, and
Laney Taylor each had one. Murry's hit was a double in the third inning that gave the YellowJackets their best scoring chance of the game.
The big blow in the game was a two-run double from Elissa Elliott in the first inning that capped the four-run frame. In the third, Taylor Holman launched a three-run homer to put the host Cru up 7-0.
Mary Hardin-Baylor faces McMurry in an elimination game on Saturday afternoon.
Grason Long (15-4) went three innings and collected the win. Elliott and Bailey Eggleston each had two hits and two RBIs for the Cru, while Holman drove in four.
