Baseball Falls to ETBU in Elimination Game

MARSHALL, Texas -- The LeTourneau baseball team fell 9-4 to East Texas Baptist on Saturday in the elimination game of the ASC tournament.

The bats were out early today for LeTourneau  (20-23) as Carter Amarantos led off with a single. Dane Jones followed that up with his double down the left field line to leave two in scoring position for Cameron Pfafman. Pfafman sent one far out to the center fielder, Nick Massarini, who made the grab, but Amarantos was plated because of it to give the YellowJackets an early lead.

LeTourneau kept the bats rolling with a pair of hits in the second inning but did not come away with any runs. East Texas Baptist (32-11) found the board when Jake Miller doubled to bring in the first run for the Tigers.

The Tigers continued in the third inning with a sacrifice fly from Brett Wagner. Which was soon followed by an RBI single from Massarini to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead after three innings.

The YellowJackets worked a two out rally in the top of four, by a Jones two-run homer sent into the net of left field. That is number 15 for the year to tie it at three a piece.

The Tigers found a two-out home run from Carson Wilson in the fourth to regain the lead.

LeTourneau came right back around with another pair of hits in the fifth. Amarantos collected an RBI as he put one down the left field line for Kyle Maysonave to come home to tie it once again after the top of five.

Ben Lea led off the bottom of the fifth with a home run to center field, and Jase Jones scored a two-run hommer to extend the lead to make it 7-4 with no outs. Miller added on another with his sacrifice fly to right rield.

The Tigers added another in the sixth with a Lea RBI single.

Dalton Pickett started the day for the YellowJackets. He went 4.0 innings, allowing seven hits and six earned runs.

Cruz Cox came in relief for 1.1 innings and was credited for the loss. He allowed three hits and three earned runs. Zac Schneider saw the hill next for the YellowJackets as he struck out one batter in his 0.2 innings of work.

TJ Spitdowski worked the seventh inning for no damage. Shane Salzman saw the bump in the eighth.

Peyton Miller saw 4.2 innings for the Tigers. He allowed 10 hits, four runs, two of them earned, and struckout four batters. Robert Croft came in relief and is credited with a win. Croft allowed two hits and tallied four strikeouts.
