SPRING 2023 SUMMARY
MEN'S BASKETBALL: The LeTourneau season culminated in a trip to the ASC Tournament. The YellowJackets had two All-ASC selections (Warren Richardson, Deonte Jackson) and Warren Richardson was named the ASC Defensive Player of the Year. Richardson broke the program's single-game record for blocks at ETBU on Feb. 4 and later earned honors as one of the top defensive players in the state from Dave Campbell's Texas Basketball.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: First-year head coach Scot MacAllister and his squad played tough throughout the season and earned an upset win over Sul Ross State on Senior Day. AJ Thomas and Bailey Broughton both earned All-ASC honors, while Broughton was also on the All-Freshman team.
BASEBALL: Under first-year head coach Paul Phillips, the YellowJackets won 20 games for the first time since 2019 and advanced to the ASC Tournament. LeTourneau tossed the program's first no-hitter in the the NCAA era (1999) and had seven players earn All-ASC honors. Dane Jones was a first team All-ASC selection and also collected ABCA and D3baseball.com All-Region accolades. Jones hit 15 homers, the most of any YellowJacket since 2003. The YellowJackets were a menace on the bases all year and set an NCAA-era program record with 96 steals (including 23 from Jones).
SOFTBALL: Records fell during the 2023 LeTourneau softball season. Seventh-year head coach Stan Wells guided the YellowJackets to the best season in program history with a 28-16 overall record and 16-11 in the ASC. LeTourneau earned an NCAA region ranking and received consideration for the NFCA Top 25, both for the first time in program history. LeTourneau beat four nationally-ranked teams during the year, including a three-game sweep of Hardin-Simmons. Murphy Williams was named the ASC Newcomer of the Year as she hit six homers on the year and went 13-8 in the circle, including a no-hitter against McMurry, while eight YellowJackets earned All-ASC accolades. The YellowJackets stole a program-record 127 bases on the year and had three players with 20-plus stolen bases. Wells earned his 100th career coaching win during the season and became the program's winningest coach in the process.
MEN'S GOLF: Speaking of record-setting seasons, The LeTourneau men's golf team pulled together its best year in program history. Ranked all season in the top 25 in two national polls, the YellowJackets earned an at-large berth to the first NCAA Championships in program history. Led by All-ASC and All-Region honoree Bryson Thurston, LeTourneau notched three team titles on the year and climbed to as high as No. 9 nationally. Thurston had back-to-back medalist honors in the spring season after Kaiden Schneider had picked up consecutive titles between the fall and spring seasons. Thurston became the first player in program history to earn four ASC Golfer of the Week honors. Four YellowJackets earned All-ASC honors and head coach J. Paul Leslie III earned Coach of the Year.
WOMEN'S GOLF: The YellowJackets women's golf team also had one of its best seasons in program history. LeTourneau produced its best finish at the ASC Tournament and Baylee Van Houten placed 10th overall in the event to cap the season. LeTourneau finished in the top-five in all but one event during the year. Newcomers Macy Rutland and Hannah Newell were both named to the All-ASC honorable mention team.
MEN'S TENNIS: The 2023 edition of the men's tennis team saw the emergence of newcomers and the decorated career of a senior. Julian Lee capped his outstanding career with All-ASC and All-East first team honors in doubles with teammate Zach Farris (freshman) and the duo went 7-3 together at the top flight. Lee was also named the ASC East Division co-Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year, marking the second time in his career he's earned the honor.
WOMEN'S TENNIS: The YellowJackets women's tennis team qualified for the ASC Tournament for a ninth straight time after starting the season 3-1 overall. Emma Boulanger earned ASC weekly honors during the season and three players were named to the CSC Academic All-District team.
MEN'S TRACK & FIELD: The program continued to rise in 2022-23 under head coach Kathleen Raske. Jack Miller qualified for both the indoor and outdoor NCAA Championships in pole vault as he capped his career as the most decorated athlete in program history. The program set 15 records between the indoor and outdoor seasons. At the ASC Championships, the YellowJackets placed third overall and had five All-ASC selections, including the Outstanding Field Athlete of the Meet (Miller) and the ASC Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year (Jacob White). Miller (pole vault), Erik Moore (decathlon), and Spencer Gambrell (5,000-meter) all won ASC titles in their events. The team had seven All-Region selections between indoor and outdoor seasons.
WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD: The women's track and field team also had a standout 2022-23 season. The YellowJackets had six program records set and had six All-ASC selections after placing third at the ASC Championships. Ellie Marsh took the 400-meter hurdles title at the ASC Championships with a program-record time of 1:04.30 and earned All-Region honors with that time. Marsh was a two-time All-ASC honoree this season after also helping the 4x400 team to a second-place finish. Victoria Wilson was All-Region in the indoor season after setting a program record in the pentathlon, one of three program records she set during the year.
